In South Africa, we are privileged to have access to great white sharks … if you know where to go, and when.
The general public, too, can enjoy great white sharks face-to-face. Observing and diving with these creatures under the correct conditions and guidance is a wonderful experience. Even ‘anti-shark’ people return from an expedition or diving trip with love, and certainly respect, for the great white.
White Shark Projects is without doubt the most successful white shark diving organisation in the world: Working in the unique marine area off the southern Cape coast, our skippers log more contact with great white sharks than anyone else worldwide.
Our boat and crew
Shark Team is an 11-metre, 4-ton catamaran with all the latest electronic and safety equipment. The boat was custom-built for shark diving, so there is plenty of space for everyone to view the sharks in comfort. While she can take 30 passengers, we have limited our licence to a maximum of 18 passengers plus crew to ensure client comfort. The company complies with strict regulations laid down by Marine Coastal Management and local governing authorities. We carry comprehensive public insurance and passenger liability. All safety equipment, first aid and life raft are on board as well as toilet facilities. >
Your day with White Shark Projects
Please note: Due to tides and collection schedules, we can only
confirm exact collection times at 16h00 on the day prior to your
tour.
• Pickup and scenic transfer
We collect you from Cape Town or Hermanus and drive you to ‘White Shark Lodge’, our home base in Kleinbaai. Alternatively we can arrange a car hire for you, or transfer by helicopter or micro light.
• Breakfast at our stunning Lodge
Our continental breakfast consists of yoghurt, cereals, toast and cold meats, tea and coffee.
• Your day at sea and a lecture on board
The skipper of the day gives a short lecture on the Great White Shark. He explains how we work with the sharks in the area. We spend 2 to 4 hours at sea, depending on how often the sharks visit the boat. Be sure to ask as many questions as you can think up!
• Diving and viewing
Our cage takes 4 people at a time. Each person spends about 20 minutes in the cage. All scuba equipment, including 7mm wetsuits, is provided – you don’t need a scuba licence to cage dive.
• Lunch on board
Our lunch boxes are packed with bread rolls (with a variety of fillings), sweets, crisps and assorted juices and soft drinks.
• Afternoon tea
On your return to dry land, you're invited to join us for tea, coffee, biscuits or scones at our Lodge.
